ORANGE THE WORLD: STEP IT UP TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS
25 NOVEMBER – 10 DECEMBER 2015
Under the United Nations Secretary-General’s global campaign UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls, UN Women is inviting partners all over the world to “Orange the World” for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to Human Rights Day on 10 December. The UNiTE campaign has released a poster and a toolkit with ideas and suggestions for how you can get involved.
In addition UN Women, other United Nations Entities, NGOs and Government partners have planned a series of activities to call attention to, to call for commitments and actions to eliminate violence against women and children.
Caribbean Actions
BARBADOS AND TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO: UN Women MCO Caribbean is partnering with Population Services Inc. (PSI), Trinidad and Tobago and IGDS: Nita Barrow Unit, UWI Cave Hill to host a film festival in Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago showcasing films that address the issues of all levels of violence against women and children in our society, and would propel us to move from Policy to Action.
The Step It Up Film Festival will launch 25 November with several screening dates until Human Rights Day – 10 December. Other associate partners are, UNDP Barbados and the OECS, UNICEF Eastern Caribbean Office and I am A Girl Barbados.

BARBADOS: UN Women Representative Christine Arab will deliver opening remarks at the Bureau of Gender Affairs of Barbados official launch of its 16 Days of Activism 2015 Campaign on Wednesday, November 25 at 10:00 a.m. at the Baobab Tower.
GRENADA: UN Women MCO Caribbean is hosting a workshop for performing artists, musicians, and visual artists from the Eastern Caribbean building on the initial UNiTE Artist commitments and actions, to deepen their engagement in UN Women MCO Caribbean social mobilisation programme to address gender based violence in the Eastern Caribbean. The workshop runs 22-25th November.
JAMAICA: UN Women, UNICEF and UNAIDS will jointly host short films and features on the themes of adolescent pregnancy, GBV and HIV and human right on December 10.

BELIZE: Under the theme Step it Up Against Gender Based Violence Now, the YWCA of Belize with the support of UN Women MCO Caribbean is hosting a series of activities across Belize including a workshop on Gender-based Violence for barbers and beauticians.

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO: The Young Women's Christian Association of Trinidad and Tobago (YWCATT) in collaboration with UN Women will host a series of activities during the 16 day period to raise awareness on Gender Based Violence including the YWCATT's “In Her Shoes" Exhibition, a Solidarity Walk against Gender Based Violence and a Film Screening and panel discussion will be staged at various locations throughout T&T over the 16 day period. TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO: The Network of NGOs of Trinidad and Tobago for the Advancement of Women with the support of UN Women is also hosting a series of activities along with its affiliate organisations and a wide cross sections of women, faith-based and community organisations and Councillors representing Regional Corporations.

Other Caribbean Actions
ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA: The Directorate of Gender Affairs of Antigua and Barbuda is working local, community-based, private sector, government and other organisations to raise awareness on the related issues of gender-based violence, and their impact on Antigua and Barbuda.

BARBADOS: The Women and Development Unit of the University (WAND) of the West Indies, Open Campus, invite you to join them at their office on the compound of The Open Campus Barbados, The Pine, Saint Michael for a Ceremony followed by a March to mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls.
ANGUILLA: The National Council of Women, the University of the West Indies Open Campus and the Gender Affairs Unit as part of the “16 Days of Activism” is hosting the “Voices against Violence” Rally tomorrow on 25 November - International Day for Eliminating Violence against Women. The march from the Library to World Harvest Assembly Church will begin at 5:00 pm.
