A 2016 National Study revealed that 1 in 4 women in Jamaica experienced intimate partner violence (IPV) in their lifetime and 1/5 of Jamaican women reported being sexually abused before reaching 18 years of age by friends or acquaintances (22.9 percent), strangers, and family members other than parents or siblings.
