Step It Up – End Gender-Based Violence in the Caribbean
This documentary presents UN Women's community-led intervention and advocacy efforts aimed at building a critical mass of individuals and groups engaged in activism against gender-based violence (GBV). Through interviews with key representatives of governmental organisations, non-governmental organisations, gender advocates and visual and musical artists, the documentary explores the key challenges faced in the Caribbean in addressing GBV, and the work of the UN Women Multi-Country Office (MCO) - Caribbean to end violence against women and girls in the Eastern Caribbean. The documentary also showcases current initiatives which support dialogue on the root causes of gender-based violence, and which aim to facilitate shifts in values, beliefs, behaviours and practices which perpetuate GBV, including constructions of masculinity. These dialogues also focus on increasing public education and awareness about rights and access to services in overcoming gender-based violence.
