UN Women Champions Care Economy and Social Support Pilot Initiatives for Dominica through the Build Back Equal Project - #IWD2026

Date:

10 March, 2026: Childcare services, skills training and TVET certification, and comprehensive health care will be provided to participating women through a pilot initiative in Dominica.

In the frame of #IWD2026, Isiuwa Iyahen, Deputy Representative and Head of Office a.i. - UN Women MCO Caribbean launched two transformative pilots to strengthen the Care Economy and Social Assistance Programmes through the Build Back Equal Project which is funded in part by Global Affairs Canada.

“The Public Assistance Programme (PAP) Pilot, supported by the Build Back Equal (BBE) Project in partnership with the Department of Social Services directly addresses the barriers faced by women receiving public assistance, many of whom shoulder the greatest unpaid care burdens”.

The UN Women Head said another significant milestone under the Build Back Equal Project was coming in the form of the launch of the pilot in partnership with the Central Statistics Office, to measure the proportion of time spent on unpaid domestic and care work.

“This data will help us better understand how to reduce, redistribute, and recognise unpaid care work—a necessary step if we are truly to “balance the scales.”
