Georgetown, Guyana: The United Nations in Guyana, in collaboration with the UN Global Compact Network Caribbean and the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) convened local private sector representatives to discuss the role of private enterprise in building inclusive, sustainable economies through responsible business conduct.
The close to 30 participants business leaders, policymakers, and development partners focused on aligning with Guyana’s priority targets under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Akilah Dorris, UN Women Multi-Country Officer – Caribbean Planning and Coordination Specialist said UN Women is proud to support private sector actors in Guyana who are embedding gender-responsive practices to ensure no one is left behind.
“Inclusive and sustainable development is only possible when we forge partnerships that drive meaningful impact. With the highest number of Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) signatories in the Caribbean, Guyana’s private sector is demonstrating strong leadership and commitment to advancing gender equality. This momentum affirms that inclusive business is not only the right approach—it is a strategic imperative for sustainable growth,” Ms. Dorris added.
