A Promise is A Promise - End Violence Against Women and Girls

Date:

Orange Day February 2013
25 February, 2013 - Bridgetown, Barbados
: The urgent need for a national and global commitment to end violence against women and girls was today broadcast across Bridgetown, the capital city of Barbados and the island’s main business and shopping district.

Local video production company Merville Lynch Productions Inc. supporting UN Women’s efforts to share the UNiTE message, broadcast 'A Promise is A Promise', the official video of the United Nations Secretary-General's Campaign UNiTE to End Violence against Women on the mega screen in Bridgetown for Orange Day February 25, 2013.

The UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign calls on governments, civil society, women's organizations, men, young people, the private sector, the media and the entire UN system to join forces in addressing the global pandemic of violence against women and girls.

Coordinated by UN Women on behalf of the UN System, UNiTE is a multi-year effort aimed at preventing and eliminating violence against women and girls in all parts of the world.

In July last year, in response to the campaign, Orange Day was also launched as an initiative of youth ambassadors of the campaign. Every 25th of the month, persons are encouraged to wear Orange and flood the social media with images and descriptions of their actions on the day to heighten awareness around the issue.

Next week, the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) brings together governments from around the world to the UN Headquarters in New York with the aim of improving the status of women. This year’s theme is ending violence against women, and expectations are high for positive outcomes. Read more: https://www.un.org/womenwatch/daw/csw/57sess.htm
