The extent of the socio-economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic has begun to shape the “new normal” for CARICOM Member States. It is important to note that survivors of gender-based violence need support and even more so due to COVID-19 now that they are possibly isolated in an unsafe environment. Therefore, gender-based violence shelters should remain open for the safety and protection of survivors and mechanisms to strengthen the capacity of individuals and organizations serving domestic violence survivors and their children should be in place.
