30 Years After Beijing: Women’s Rights in the Caribbean
2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action, 25 years since the adoption of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, the 15th anniversary of UN Women, and 10 years of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 SDGs. 2025 was therefore a pivotal opportunity for the Caribbean to take stock of progress, identify persistent barriers, and renew commitment to advancing gender equality and the empowerment of all women.
Although several Caribbean countries have undertaken national-level reviews as part of the global Beijing+30 process, not all have submitted formal reports. To ensure a comprehensive regional perspective, this synthesis draws on a wide array of evidence beyond the Beijing+30 submissions.
It integrates recent and relevant findings from multiple sources, including national reports submitted under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), Voluntary National Review (VNR) reports related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), submissions to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), and other reports to international and regional human rights mechanisms.
